Who is Curve?

Get to know the creator behind the craft.

Hi i'm James

I've been crafting holds for the past 5 years since I created a full set of 300+ holds for my home board.

I've always had an interest in woodwork and have been climbing for 20+ years so it's only fitting that I finally combine the two passions.

I've loved developing my craft over the past few years. Learning the neuances of hold shaping and refining my style of holds. There's so much more that i'm excited to explore with hardwood climbing holds and i'm always keen for feedback.

Bouldering is life

I absolutely love bouldering, the beautiful places it takes you, the interesting people you meet and the opportunity to test yourself both physically and mentally.
I've also spent a lot of my time training on boards and still after 20 years get excited at the prospect for a decent board session. This is one of the sole reasons i've delved into hold crafting, for the love of the board!

My other passion in life is photography

I've been a professional landscape photographer for the past 12 years and feel very lucky to be able to have my passion afford me a living.

I love being outdoors be it hiking, climbing, surfing or just taking it easy by a campfire. When i'm outside i'm in my happy place.

It's also pretty handy being a photographer to take nice pictures of all the holds I create.

IG Magic Wood

Another project i'm heavily involved in is the preservation of the world class bouldering area Magic Wood. As part of the team I am heading up the Recultivation Project to help this beautiful place last the test of time.

My doggo Jack

Last but no means least...If you've ever met me, you've met my dog Jack. He's the best crag dog out there and always keen for an adventure or to head into the woods for a session.
He's the quality control manager here at Curve and gives the final say to anything heading out the door. This lil' guy is a legend!
