It's incredibly important for us to be aware of our impact in this world, espoecially following a passion that's so linked with nature. So a major focus for Curve is to be as eco friendly and sustainable as possible.
This is implemented in a few ways by selecting reputable wood sources, using solar power where possible to power the tools, Using an environmentally friendly hardcoat to finish the holds or reusing packaging to ship out orders.
Wood sources
A large majority of the wood species used to craft holds with have been sources from offcuts destined to burn piles from carpenters working on larger projects.
The more exotic species however have been purchased from reputable sources in the UK like 'Feel Good Wood' or 'Woodwise UK' . It's very important to me that any species sources abroad has not only been harvested sustainably and ethically but is given the utmost respect when crafting with.
Shellac as a hardcoat
All holds are finished with a Blonde Shellac glossy hardcoat to not only protect the wood but to also bring it to life.
Instead of using a Polyurethane hardcoat which has substantial greenhouse gases in its process, we've gone for a Blonde Shellac "French Polish" approach.
This is a finishing process that's been around for centuries. Shellac is an eco-friendly, biodegradable, and non-toxic wood finish derived from natural, renewable secretions of the lac bug. The finishing process is a bit more arduous to achieve a high gloss finish but its definitely worth it.
